On Christmas Eve 2020, the first episode of StaticSquidd released. Through the next four years, StaticSquidd was the name of the channel while I uploaded episodes of a series named "StaticSquidd". Clever, right?
I've made friends with some great creators, made some good videos, had fun,
Well, a couple months ago, I announced that StaticSquidd will be coming to an end soon.... to make way for a rebrand!
Yeah, I'm not going anywhere. I've mentioned that I'm not too satisfied being "StaticSquidd", so I wanted to eventually rebrand. You can see my reasons for allat here. I know I said January 2026 in that post, but what's the point of lugging around a dead corpse I'm unsatisfied with just for sentimental value?
So that's why, today I'm announcing the new branding of the channel.... Ellie Mars!
Ellie Mars is kinda like a pseudonym, it's just a name I like because it helps separating my personal life from all my silly YouTube stuff that I do. I know I've used my real name in videos before so it's not like I can just go into YouTube Studio and take all that out, I honestly don't care if it's out there or not, I just want to keep my creative works under a consistent branding.
I'm glad you asked! I want to focus more on making a variety of things. I don't just like video games, after all!
Of course, the forefront of the channel will still be video game-related videos. Those are not going away.
However, them all being in one unorganized, underdeveloped """show""" called StaticSquidd or Ellie Mars will no longer be the case.
"Ellie Mars" videos will focus more on general topics, either something I wanted to talk about, like something I find interesting, something topical, or whatever. And this could be about... well... whatever I want, but like mostly in the realm of media. Movies, TV shows, music, alongside games is fair game. I'm not gonna start talking about something completely out of left field that absolutely nobody wants me to talk about. I've noticed a bit of an interesting thing when I showcase or sneak in my non-gaming interests in videos. Like, I wore a Jeff Rosenstock hat I got from a show in 2023 and someone pointed that out in a very excited manner like... immediately. And that was fucking awesome to me. And another person pointed out the Streetlight Manifesto shirt I wore in the very next video.
I want to be able to express a wide variety of interests that I have, so being able to focus less on JUST video games will allow me to widen my horizons and talk about things that I felt pidgeonholed into not talking about when I was doing StaticSquidd, and the way I'm doing that is...
By just making videos. Ellie Mars videos aren't "episodes" of a show or whatever, they're just videos! Not a part of seasons or a larger series, just "videos".
But I do still have that desire to have a show, and I have something else I've been working on over the past month or so.
Temp. logo, possible chance to be final.
I don't have much to share on this as I'm still conceptualizing this, but RoommateMania is a show revolving around reviewing video games. Not new releases, but stuff like classics, Wii shovelware, random assortments of games.
Why is it called that?
Well, RoommateMania is about 3 roommates. Elias, Editor, and Ice. Those names sound familiar, don't they?
RoommateMania is basically the continuation of StaticSquidd. The show will be starting from season one, episode one, and will not continue where StaticSquidd left off, but it's set in the same universe and uses the same characters. The three StaticSquidd episodes from 2024 are basically a proto-RoommateMania, it's the product of the direction I wanted to take StaticSquidd into.
During the later months of StaticSquidd, I kept making general topic-based episodes, trying to shove stories and characters into them, and while I didn't necessarily hate it, I felt like the plots and jokes clashed with the casual laid back tone of whatever wasn't happening on camera. Having the general topic videos be their own seperate thing free from continuity or characters or whatever I feel like really helps each video flourish, and especially helps a show like this flourish.
RoommateMania will still be uploaded onto the main Ellie Mars channel, but is an entirely separate entity from regular Ellie Mars videos.
More details will be shared at a later date. I'm planning on having a batch of episodes ready come Feburary of next year so I can have a consistent release schedule.
Q: "Awwww, you're changing the PFP? I loved the green man PFP you had!"
A: I know, I know. It's iconic. It caught on, right? I know. I want to keep it alive too, so it's going to be the icon for the second channel instead!
Q: Wait, so if you're no longer StaticSquidd, what's happening to SecondSquidd?
A: SecondSquidd will be rebranded to Ellie Mars Express. I plan on uploading supplemental videos to main channel uploads as well as other stuff like unscripted ramblings or whatever.
Q: Will you still use the Monopoly song at the end of videos?
A: I haven't decided yet. I really love that song as an outro and I want to keep it in some way. I think it would work well as the outro theme to regular videos, but I have a song I plan on using for the outro of RoommateMania.
Q: What will happen to existing StaticSquidd videos? Are you deleting those?
A: StaticSquidd videos will still exist on the channel. None of the episodes will be deleted, unlisted, archived et cetera. They will stay on the channel, exactly how they are.
However, once the channel gets more post-StaticSquidd content, I'll start to unify all the videos under a consistent branding. Later episodes will regain the thumbnail branding circa Season 2 and "- StaticSquidd" will be annexed to the end of episode titles that don't have it, just to separate StaticSquidd stuff from later stuff. I've already started kinda doing this, as all StaticSquidd episodes are now contained into one unified playlist, and I've delisted the playlists for the separate seasons.
Q: Console generation videos? Are you ever making another one?
A: Listen, I have actually been entertaining the idea of rebooting the console generation series as a miniseries on the Ellie Mars channel. I have a whole logo and intro I never used for the console generation videos that I made back in like 2022. There's a funny story as to why I ended up never using them. I do plan on repurposing what I have and remaking the original three console generation videos, and then continuing each generation from there.
Q: What will happen to this website? It's like brand new, are you gonna abandon it orrrrr
A: Funny enough, an exact copy of this website has been made and hosted at elliemars.com! This domain (staticsquidd.com) expires in November. This site will remain up until October 1st, and then after that, this URL will redirect to the Ellie Mars website before ultimately being delisted.
Other than that, I think that's all I have to write for now. Any future questions, I'll be glad to answer in the Ellie Mars Discord server.
Thank you for watching StaticSquidd, and I hope you all are excited for what comes next! Stay tuned!
